Avoid sun tanning, and tanning beds 2-4 weeks before and after a laser hair removal treatment. If you must be in the sun, use a sunscreen of at least SPF 50 and liberally re-apply throughout the day. Protective clothing is also encouraged.
No self tanner.
Refrain from tweezing, plucking, waxing or sugaring for at least 2-3 weeks prior to treatment. Shaving or trimming is best in between sessions.
Come to each session shaved.
Client should not take Accutane within 6 months of treatment.
No retin-a or retinol products to treatment area for at least 3-7 days before and after treatment.
No chemical peels or anything abrasive to the skin at least 3-7 days before and after treatment.
Avoid hot showers, saunas, spas, steam rooms, hot yoga, vigorous exercise for 24-48 hours before and after treatment.
Avoid anything that involves chlorine (ex. Swimming) for 24-48 hours before and after treatment.
Because treated follicles have been heated, the area may feel sensitive for an hour to a day or possibly longer, depending on your skin sensitivity level.
For optimal results, multiple treatments are necessary. Treatment schedule will vary between 4-8+ weeks between visits, depending on the body area.
You may notice hair surfacing for 2-4 weeks after treatment. Although this may appear to be growing, it is not. This process is called “shedding” or “purging” and it will take time for the treated hair to complete the process.
Gently exfoliate the shedding hairs by wiping away these hairs with a damp cloth or soft loofah. Exfoliating will gently lift the dead hairs out of the follicles.
Gently exfoliate the skin a few times a week.
If skin feels irritated, apply aloe or ice.
Keep good personal hygiene, especially the treated area keep clean, do not overheat or sweat. 24-48 hours after treatment.
